Embassies do not have extraterritorial status.
According to the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic
Relations (1961), what they do in fact enjoy is the
"inviolability of their premises".
Cf. "Inviolability: Term referring to two notions:
one, the personal inviolability of the diplomat; two,
the inviolability of the premises of the diplomatic
mission (see Embassy). The inviolability of the person
means that the diplomat cannot be submitted to any
form of arrest or detention. The inviolability of the
premises prevents any police operation within the
mission unless the prior consent of the head of
mission has been given (see Privileges and
Immunities)."

I received this from the French conservator of the
French properties
on St. Helena about their status:
"With reference to your message, I confirm the
extra-territoriality of the French Properties on the
island... like an embassy.
