finally found the mouth of the big mo at ilmo3mascsl ok
the tricounty point of
madison il & sts charles & louis mo
a good clean class d at a few hundred feet
if the topo is right
didnt think of swimming for it tho
quite impressive at close range
& no wonder la salle or whoever discovered it considered the upper
mississippi the main stem
rather than the missouri
which we know today to be its sawanabori veritas caput
lake itasca & schoolcraft to the contrary notwithstanding
for the mississippi is easily twice as wide as the missouri here
which moreover comes in almost perpendicularly to the main stem
so you would never know the truth here without a hydrology degree
not that this was how it looked in the 17th century anyway
as both rivers have displaced at their confluence since then
but be that as it may
here i am at a kinkos across the street from busch stadium
thinking along with the rest of the crowd that they might actually
play the game tonight in the rain
tickets are sold out
& standing room is said to be going for 150 bucks
if you could find a scalper
which i havent
but i think i would rather try to sneak in anyway
very exciting
beeps
