Recently, while on a trip to Dublin, I passed the shop window for the
"Republican Sinn Fein" party. (The political wing of the IRA - or a
splinter group thereof.) In the window was a picture of the back of the
new Euro coins showing quite clearly Northern Ireland as a seperate
island from the Irish Republic and the caption "A Message from Europe to
the Irish People" or something to that effect. Officially of course, it
is the UK/IE border but don't tell that to Irish Nationalists.
Certainly Nationalist feelings run high along the border and in much of
the North but in Dublin and the rest of the Republic they are very
subdued. I know. I'm from Dublin originally. Most people in the South
really couldn't care less who rules the North as long as people have
enough to eat and peace holds.

If I find a picture of said poster online I'll post it.

come out. Italy was minting them for the Vatican. Euros from other
countries were going to circulate in the Vatican City, and all of the
specific Vatican euros were to be sold to tourists at more than face
value. For this reason, the Vatican wanted lots of them, but Italy was
refusing to mint more than called for in the original agreement.
Meanwhile, some of the Protestant countries were miffed that money with
the likeness of the Pope would be legal tender within their borders.
