<div id="ygrps-yiv-1010499492">I visited Four Corners in March, 1962.  Access involved driving many miles on <br/>
a gravel road that paralleled the under-construction, now existent paved <br/>
road.  The short side road to Four Corners was little more than two ruts across <br/>
the desert.<br/>

The spot was then marked by an approximately three-foot high truncated <br/>
pyramid made of concrete, and if my memory is correct, it was painted red.  The <br/>
monument had suffered the ravages of weather and potshots and was not much to look <br/>
at.  One could easily step on top for the classic photo.  Visitation appeared <br/>
to be very low.<br/>
