So basically, in 1992 there was a new marker placed. Then I disagree with
the article that Four Corners didn't really take off until then, because all
of the Navajo vendors and hoopla were there prior to 1992.

you are right that the slab was there when you visited in 1992
since it dates from 1962
per bus&ss

however
the copper disk on which the quadripoint is now marked
was evidently set into the slab in 1992
as you can see in this enlargement pic

i believe there are other mistakes in the article

most notably
the present point wasnt actually marked in 1868 as stated
but not until 1875

i believe there was an earlier point
of course not yet really an azconmut point
about a mile or so away
as i recall

this may be behind the question about the authenticity of the
government claim

but of course the crosshairs on the disk do indeed mark the true
azconmut today
