the foto at lower left
http://home.cestovatel.cz/bart/02turecko/foto_a.php3
is evidently the turkish side of the kapikule border
gate mentioned in message 1450
so if you can find that huge mosque there on your topo
petter
you will be able to guess how far & in which direction
it is from there to the bggrtr tripoint in the river

the foto at lower right may also refer to this area or
else to the nearby turkish town of kapikule
which however is much farther from the tripoint than
the bulgarian border town of kapitan andreevo
pictured at upper right

so most likely that very pic
&or the turkish border post pic
represent our closest visit to date

alternatively
blowing thru on the orient express
http://www.fahrgast.at/z98-3-3c.gif

& the immediate countryside probably in turkey
http://home.cestovatel.cz/bart/02turecko/foto/f-05/20-Policka_radne_obdelana.jpg

& there are of course many pix of the river
such as here at nearby edirne aka adrianople
http://www.bostontoistanbul.com/storiespics/edirne/tour.htm
but none can be identified more locally than this

curiously the article in message 1450 also mentions
that the river passes beneath the border gate
so maybe this suggests an alternative explanation for
the damlike structure you see on your map

still i cant imagine what kind of a border gate could
cross such a big river or any river for that matter

but is there any way you could beam it up for us
