kennett square pa

unlike the objects of my first 2 stops
the stargazers stone turned out to be a rare & photogenic beauty
& for the first time i really wished to make some pix

so i asked a lovely horse lady passerby where i might buy a cheap
camera nearby
& she took me home & said here take mine & an extra roll of film too
& refused to accept any money since she said she had no need of it

wish i couldve taken her with me too

she told me van morrison & james taylor have a new record out with
mark knopfler
called
sailing to philadelphia
which includes a great song about mason & dixon & the stargazers stone

so anyway the pix are at a drugstore being developed now

the stargazers stone itself is a just an uncut unmarked low rock of
very pleasing shape
& it is surrounded by an impressive but much newer square fortlike
enclosure made of many similar rocks
with commemorative plaque built in

the mason dixon farmhouse also of stone is a few stones throws away

later as i was drifting toward the depa arc down the brandywine
a creek which btw looks just as delicious as it sounds
i saw another commemorative plaque which astonished me

it said there was a big rock just below there on the bank
tho out of view
so i had to take it on faith
which marked the lower boundary of the lenape indians
their upper boundary being the source of the brandywine itself

this was the first indian boundary marker stone i had ever heard of
