I was watching bbcamerica and in a report on the news about
Bosnia Hercegovina the reporter mentioned that EU membership is way
off because of the economy, political situation, tri-government, and
(now we're getting to the Hans Island part) any country that has a
land border with the EU is moved to the top of the list in terms of
new membership, unless its an island nation in of itself.(ie Iceland-
which is in the EEC-, Malta and Cypurs). Bizarre since he said this
was done on a recommendation by Greece which isn't bordered land wise
by any EU/EEC/EFTA country.

Canada is in Nafta with the US, but if a land border is
established via Denmark as Jesper has suggested dividing Hans Island
down the middle this would establish a land border with the European
Union and NAFTA. I mean I seriously doubt Canada would up and join
the EU but the real problem is probably in the details of some crazy
trade rule or law or ruling by a treaty that could invoke some trade
dispute/immigration dispute.

As an aside, right now the only people allowed into Canada
without passports are US citizens, French citizens via sea from
St.Pierre + Miquelon and Danish citizens travelling from Greenland.
