I cannot find this reported on BP:

From http://news.suc.org/bydate/2003/July_25/5.html :

The International Standardization Organization (ISO), alongside the three letter code, adopted a two letter code for SerbiaMontenegro CS, which will become the mark of the national Internet domain. This change is expected at the very soonest to be implemented at the end of the year.

The CS acronym was chosen as a compromise, as SC, SM, and MS were already taken. CS used to be the code of Czechoslovakia, but was annulled after the disintegration of the union in 1993.

Serbia (YU big brother) is now the very last republic to get an ISO letter :-) as the local official name is Srbija i Crna Gora.
