You might buy a 100-foot fiberglass tape measure at your local home center.
They're cheap, light, non-stretching, and have a handy crank for easy roll-up.
You'd have to lay it six times, but your measurement would still be more
accurate than fighting sag and wind with a 600-foot anything. Being
non-metallic, it should pass airport security in checked baggage. You might
pack pencils for stakes instead of the more usual large nails.
