Sometimes roads that purport to run straight along a surveyed boundary line
cannot help but waffle back and forth a little. One case in point is US 59-71,
State Line Avenue in Texarkana. This is a modern five-lane urban throughfare
for about three miles between downtown and the interchange with Interstate 30 on
the north side of town(s). The two northbound lanes are in Arkansas (speed
limit 40) and the two southbound lanes are in Texas (speed limit 45). The
boundary runs down the middle of the left-turn lane.

When the street was widened from two to five lanes a few decades ago, it was
widened equally on both sides. At one point, though, there is a cemetery on the
Arkansas side of the street that limited its widening in that direction.
Therefore, the otherwise straight street bows slightly Texas-ward (but only
enough that one of us types would notice). It's enough that the whole left turn
lane and part of the northbound left driving lane strays into Texas for a short
distance.
