Caicos Islands, let alone know that it&#39;s a British Overseas Territory! I <br/>
think there is little tourism from the UK, although the islands have <br/>
started to advertise over here.<br/>

During the 1970s, various schemes were cooked-up by the UK government to <br/>
off-load the remaining overseas territories that were considered to be a <br/>
financial burden. This was not an uncommon scenario as it happened with <br/>
Newfoundland (to Canada), various Pacific Islands (to Australia and New <br/>
Zealand) and Anguilla (originally to St Kitts and Nevis, but subsequently <br/>
returning after a revolt *against* independence). However, this policy <br/>
changed after 1982, and the Turks and Caicos Islands were one of the <br/>
territories where the transition to independence was reversed.<br/>
