Dear Bill,
sorry for not answering that question before, but I've been
very busy (and I still am..) in the past two weeks. That affects
my socalled "homepage" as well, which I realize can't be
considered a "real" homepage yet - forgive me, but
good things take time, and I will need help from Jesper in
order to complete it - and to make it a real exciting page...

Re Baarle: The economic union between the BENELUX -
countries finally came into effect on Nov. 1, 1960 - at this
date the very last border controls between these three
countries were abolished. However, border controls
between BE and LU must have been waived much earlier,
since these 2 countries had been united - economically -
since 1922 - and both the Belgian and Lux. Franc have
the same value.
However, there has never been any custom enforcements
in Baarle town itself - that would have been an almost
impossible task anyway - since you cross the invisible
boundary line many times just by strolling through town...
The only indication of what country you're in are the
metal plates on each house with the actual street-
number, since they also display the national flag...!
All the best - have a nice weekend..!
Peter
