I had always assumed that the Manitoba-Saskatchewan &quot;stepstair <br/>
boundary&quot; was defined by township and ranges, similar to the public <br/>
land survey systems used in many of U.S. states (including here in <br/>
Florida...which is unique for a state located on the east coast).  <br/>
Could there be a more esoteric reason behind that boundary?</div>
