this goes back a few days to a question i was asking brian about whether he
thought the caus international boundary commission was being disingenuous
in telling people how to apply for a construction permit etc in the 6&6 or
12 meter clear zone

brians answer below seems to me not only right on the money in nh & maine
but probably also true from coast to coast
judging from everything i have ever seen or heard about the caus boundary

>I think construction on the boundary is probably regulated to the
>point of prohibition. The boundary environs you mention on the
>Mohawk reservation sound similar to those at the northern tip of New
>Hampshire. I think they take a brush hog in there every 10 years or
>so and clear a 6 meter swath, but other than that there are, as you
>say, a few monuments and a number of brass tablets marking the
>boundary.

however or moreover i am happy to report or repeat that there is at least
one tho probably only one striking & telling exception to this business
as usual approach & policy of the ibc
namely
everywhere within & bordering the akwesasne mohawk international reservation

the complete absence of any ibc clear zone there is to me a very clear
indication if not yet absolute proof that the mohawk actually can & do
exercise their own sovereignty within their reservation territories in both
the united states & canada

& in case you think we are just talking a little benign neglect here & no
big deal
i will add that i was at first shocked & then increasingly bemused to find
not only most of the border there thicketed &or planted with power poles or
barbed wire fences
etc etc
but the freakin turnpoint itself
yes i mean the initial or terminal monument itself
of the illustrious 45th parallel segment of caus that runs east from the st
lawrence at akwesasne straight to new hampshire
was totally overgrown & unrecoverable

i know perfectly well what the legal situation is
& that there is no basis in american or canadian or western international
law for the mohawk position
nor for my acknowledgement of it as a fact

& akwesasne is of course not an independent country also because it is not
otherwise recognized as an independent country
such as by the united states or canada or the united nations

but please feast your eyes on their own mohawk view of their sovereignty
& their mohawk map
at http://www.rescol.ca/aboriginal/7gen/sovern-e.html

so it is with all the above considerations as well as my personal
encounters there as background that i take excessive pleasure in telling
you now i am personally persuaded i may rightfully consider my recently
reported class d visits to the akwesasne trinational points of akcause &
akcausw as authentic tri country calls
perhaps only de facto or immanent yet observably real ones
at the only 2 such points that may ever be found within nafta north america

& moreover in doing so
however arbitrarily
i also lose abruptly my tricountry virginity
& also put myself on the chart at a total of 2 tricountries right next to
peter here
not to mention jane who shot the pix

& this will besides obviate any absolute need for that dreaded trip to
bandit infested portions of central or even south america
as you can see from emils new america map
which btw i would like to call production standard it is so beautiful
or that considerably less but still hair raising europe trip

tho of course i may still do either or both of these trips also anyway

i know
i know
you say well what about the dahm arabians
& all the other hot tenant or march nations in this landlordly world
etc etc

mike you are tossing the game right out the window if you do this

arent you being a little too self serving
we mean even too self serving even for yourself

& i say i dont know majesties
maybe we will just have to feel them all out one at a time
but this pair at least felt & smelt & looked real to fluke eyed me
