I think construction on the boundary is probably regulated to the
point of prohibition. The boundary environs you mention on the
Mohawk reservation sound similar to those at the northern tip of New
Hampshire. I think they take a brush hog in there every 10 years or
so and clear a 6 meter swath, but other than that there are, as you
say, a few monuments and a number of brass tablets marking the
boundary.
