The German DGK5 maps are photocopies because (according to Landes...
Nordrhein-Westfalen), they only make proper copies when there is demand for
at least 70 copies. Perhaps this requirement is met for sheets in cities or
more 'popular' areas, and not obscure border sheets!
18DM for an A2 xerox is expensive, but they are nice clean copies, with all
the detail we desire.

Here is a listing of the names and numbers of decent maps showing the
various European enclaves:

ROETGEN-MONSCHAU:
German DeutscheGrudKarte (DGK5) 1:5000: sheet listed in previous email

1:25 000 topo (TK25): 5303 Roetgen and 5403 Monschau. Sheet 5202 Aachen
covers the BeDeNe tripoint.

1:50 000 (TK50): L5302 Aachen and L5502 Monschau

1:100 000 (TK100): C5502 Aachen

1:200 000 (TK200): CC5502 Koln

These are all produced by the Nordrhein-Westfalen survey dept. There is no
overlap between sheets on the same scale. But 4 25k sheets make up a 50k
sheet, etc. good German efficiency.

Another good map by the same people is Monschauer Land Rurseengebeit
1:25000 Wanderkarte Nr.3(walking map). This covers all the 5 enclaves on a
single sheet, with the normal full colour 1:25k topo detail, with walking
paths and various outdoor tourism things highlighted with coloured lines or
symbols. These sort of maps are more popular in Germany then standard topos
at the same scale because of the larger size, and they are centred on hiking
areas, so a wlaking trail is on one sheet, not divided over 2 or more like
often on standard topos with an arbitary sheet grid.

ON the Belgian side:
1:100k topo: 113 Liege-Eupen

1:50k: sheets "Eupen 35-43" covers the BeDeNe tripoint to the middle of the
4th enclave at Monschau. Sheet "Malmedy 50-50A" covers the bottom of #4 and
all #5. No overlap.

1:25k (this series is slowly being replaced by a new 1:20k series, but no
sheets in the Roegten area yet). "35/5-6 Gemmenich-Botzelaar" covers the
BeDeNe tripoint. "43/3-4 Petergensfeld" covers enclave #1 and the top half
of #2. "43/7-8 Reinartzhof-Hoscheit" covers the bottom of #2, #3 and mosdt
of #4. "50/3-4 Elsenborn-Langert" covers the rest of #4 and #5. "56/7-8
Burg-Reuland - Gross-Bohlscheid" covers the 6th enclave near Bleialf, that
disppeared when the rail tracks here were pulled up in the 1950s. There is
supposedly picnic furniture made of the old boundary stones here. see also
German 25k map 5703 Bleialf. This is from Land Rheinland-Pfalz though!

1:10k. The old series is twice the size of the new series, but only come
flat, not folded, so are a pain, and more expensive to buy by mail. Enclave
sheets are (all new series): "43/3sud, Petergensfeld", "43/4 sud
Lammersdorf", 43/7 nord Reinartzhof", "43/7 sud Hattlich" and "43/8 nord
Hoscheit". Sheet 50/3 is only available in the old series. The new series
have nice detail and colour for Belgium and brown and monochrome enlargement
fomr TK25 for the german areas. Interestingly, enclave3, the small one is
given Belgian detailing and colour, as is the Vennbahn itself.

BAARLE:
Dutch sheets 1:25k 50G Baarle-Nassau covers the village itself, with 50B
Breda covering the westernmost 3 or 4 isolated enclaves. The detail on 1:50k
sheets 50-ost and 50-west is not good enough for this enclave complex.
Both Dutch and Belgian areas are shown with the same style and detail, which
is nice.
Belgian 1:25k sheets needed are: 2/7-8 Meerle for the 2 topmost tiny
enclaves, and 8/3-4 Wortel-Weelde for the rest of Baarle. Dutch areas are
only shown in monochrome taken fomr dutch maps, so these are not as good to
use, but make an interesting comparison.
Both countries do a 1:10 000 series for the area, the Belgian one being the
old series, not the new one, so in both cases you have to deal with large
flat maps. The detail is the same as 1:25 000 mapping: no extra lines, but
the lines are the same thickness as on 1;25k maps, not enlarged 2.5 times
from 25k maps. It makes a big difference!
Needed sheets for the Belgian 10k series are 8/3 for the western enclaves
and 8/4 for Baarle itself.
The Dutch update their 25k mapping every 2 years now, so it will be pretty
up to date!

JUNGHOLZ
For Jungholz, Bavariuan 1:25k 8428 Hindelang is good. Austria only does 50k,
not 25k maps.

SCHAFFHAUSEN
Swiss 1:25k sheet 2511, an extra-large special sheet.
I don't have the appropriate Baden-Wurtemburg 25k sheets, as several are
needed.

CAMPIONE
Swiss 1:25k 1353 Lugano. Italy doesn't make topos one can easily get hold
of. Military secrecy and all that. Alpine clubs and such are producing them
for some areas, but not for Campione just yet.

LLIVIA
French 25k 2250ET Bourg Madame-Mont louis. The old Serie Orange 50k are
being phased out. But for this large enclave, even 100k Top100 sheet 71 St
Gaudens-Andorre shows it well, AND shows Andorra. Both show equivalent
detail on the Spanish side in the same style. The only decent Spanish map I
could find was 1:50k sheet 217 Puigcerda, a reprint of a 1942 map! In
colour, nice cartography, but the French area is blank. Only the road
connecting SPain to Llivia is shown in there. I found it in "Livingstone's"
travel/map shop in The Hague.

Drumully:
Irish pene-enclave. See sheet 27 Upper Lough erne from the Ordnance Survey
of Northern Ireland.

Angle Inlet:
US pene-enclave.
See 1:100k sheets Angle Inlet and Oak Island. these two sheets don't seem to
have a simple numbering system.

PURCHASE:
The relevant national survey authorities sell these maps, but not all do so
over by email and credit card. Germans in particular don't take creidt
cards, which is a pain for those of us outside Europe. However, a decent
map/travel shop in Europe will be able to order what you need. Stamfords in
London, Livingstone's in the Hague, or there are many in Germany.
For those in europe, you will know where to og. For those outside, try
www.stanfords.co.uk or www.omnimap.com in the US
