the world of american try pointing was rocked this morning by the probable
discovery of the nations first trimaritime twins
prusvin & prusvis
the 84th & 85th domestic american tripoints to be conceived so far
& the first ever hypothesized outside the metropole
& likely the last that may ever be found anywhere

punctologists caught off guard by the unexpected development are still
scrambling for the precise geocoordinates of the new points
but the following data are believed to be correct

the easternmost islets of the commonwealth of puerto rico
the islas culebritas
& the westernmost ones of the united states virgin islands
the savana island group
are separated by less than 8 nautical miles of united states maritime territory
in what is called the virgin passage

normally the states & territories of the usa have maritime territories of 3
nautical miles
so the 8nm gap would have made this a nonissue

but because puerto rico has 9 nautical miles of territorial waters
like texas & the gulf coast of florida
inexplicably if not owing to their common spanish heritage
it seems inescapable that the new set of trifederal twins will straddle the
north & south entrances of the passage
somewhat closer to the dry virgins than to dry puerto rico
tho it is not yet clear at what exact distance from the opposite coasts

like do the virgins get their full 3nm at the expense of some of the rican 9nm
or is the 8nm passage allocated proportionally say 6nm to pr & 2nm to vi
or what

the usgs 100k scale map series which normally shows the maritime
territorial limits with red lines is incomplete in this area

in fact such a question has probably never been asked before

but how to answer it
