Musing on the freedom of access to some enclaves: Busingen, Madha,
Campione, Llivia, Baarle, through which one can drive or walk without
hindrance. Access to the ex-USSR enclaves is hampered by minefields
and men with guns, from what I read, although I do recall Colin
Thubron visiting a Fergana enclave in The Lost Heart of Asia. And
access to the Indian/Bangla enclaves seems to be made difficult
largely because of administrative confusion, if I remember one of
Brendan's postings correctly (for a foreigner, that is - of course
there are other major impediments to the movement of Indian and
Bangaladeshi citizens back and forth). So I'm left wondering about
the situation in Belarus and Cyprus. Does anyone know how easy it is
to cross from Belarus into the Russian exclave? And Rolf, Jesper,
anyone else who's been to Cyprus - was it easy to get into the two
settlement enclaves? (I imagine the power station might be difficult
to enter just because it's a power station!)
