Joe Batt's Arm is the farthest north I ever went on a company tab (no
lie). Why would a company send me (or anyone) there? Because there
are circuits to be sold in St. John's, and they don't seem to care if
you fly into Deer Creek and drive the rest of the way as long as an
order follows. Ah, the beauty of big companies. I explained that my
itinerary was most efficient and they bit. Apparently even the house
travel service doesn't have a good map. Anyway, I climbed Gross Morne
and ate Cod lips along the way. And I suppose I should feel guilty
but I can't.

The very best part was telephoning my brother from the Castaway
Lounge (with company calling card of course) right from downtown Joe
Batt's Arm. Yes, there is beer, food, a phone, a pool table, an
operable lightbulb and everything. It was good because ever since we
were kids we always wanted to go to there. When I told him where I
was he was beyond surprized. We hadn't mentioned Joe Batt's Arm for
at least 30 years. The last time I remember discussing it was when we
were looking for the "weirdest" places on earth by globe. It must
have been in the mid 60s. Nevertheless, Brian knew exactly where I
was and requested a sample of the terrain, a rock. I still have it.
Hey Brian, you still want it? HaHaHa. I think the idea of
pointing/bounding and going there must become a part of you when you
are very young. Maybe its genetic.

Joe Batt's Arm is the very first point for the sake of being a point
that I ever went for. I'm glad I made it. Run dildo, run!!!
