It is indeed Hesselinge on that old map. Those long s'es can be a bit
misleading.
I happened to look in a Staphorst history book (can't think of the
name now, but it is possible that it is the same one) in a second
hand book shop on saturday myself! I found out that Dingstede was
exchanged in 1960 for another piece of land, which was considerably
bigger, between the municipalities of Meppel and Staphorst. Which was
met by some anger by the citizens of Staphorst, because in this way
the total area of grassland diminished, and there was a shortage of
it already for the Staphorst diary farmers. Meppel needed the land to
build new city quarters.

In the neigbourhood there are the (wet) nature reservations of
Meppelerdiep and Meppelerdieplanden. On the topo-map it can be found
that Dingstede is just on or above sealevel while most of the
surroundings are below sealevel. That, by the way, is not exceptional
in the NW part of the province of Overijssel.
