Diego Garcia is formally a part of BIOT. It is a joint British-US Navy support facility. There are normally about 1700 British and US military personnel and 1400 civilian contractor personnel stationed in the Territory. All other BIOT islands are uninhabited (source: http://BRITAIN-INFO.ORG/bots/ , look for the pdf file depterrs. A good source for what is still British).
