Hello Peter

Thanks for all your contribution, but I am very interested where you are based etc.

Would you in any case be interested in GCEBE2001?

What I wanted to say was that there is some confusion about the name of the island. Ile de la Conférence is the small one, Ile des Faisans the big one that isn't an island anymore. According to Descheemaeker, the condominium has always been the small one, which was possibly at one time called Ile des Faisans, but this name got transferred to the big one. So there is more confusion about the name then there is about the place. The condominium is situated in the middle of the Bidassoa. So the island _is_ wedged in between France and Spain. And in my opinion those tripoints do exist.

I visited the spot last autumn and made some slides. I will try to put some of these on a web site or so in the coming week or two.

another very nice one  peter

the photo in the link & the published map give reason to expect a pair of condominial tripoints at the ends of the island

namely

fr frsp sp e

&

fr frsp sp w

but your description & the hand drawn map suggest that the condominium territory may have become enclaved within or entirely surrounded by french territory within the river

can you say which is the actual situation on the ground

i know some people may not think international tripoints as significant as trinational ones

but they all do seem to me to belong in the same premier or world class

such acknowledgement would also help to appreciate the true nature of the dipunctitrilines

or tricountry lines with condominial tripoint bookends

that occur in the tripoint areas normally simplified as bedelu & defrlu

& perhaps elsewhere
