This Mexican commemorative five peso coin was purchased by MEXLIST member Roger Gutiérrez at a coin shop in El Paso, Texas, USA. It was issued by the Casa de Moneda de México in 1950 to celebrate the inauguration of the Ferrocarril del Sureste. Made of silver, .720 fine and weighing .893 troy ounces (27 7/9 grams), the coin is 1 9/16 inches (4 centimeters) in diameter. The locomotive depicted is a 4-6-4 without tender. The words, "COMERCIO, INDUSTRIA, AGRICULTURA" are impressed into the edge of the coin. These scans were made by Gerald Styles.
