This is the first in a series of seven photos by Lowell McManus taken between July 23
and July 27, 1999.
Loaded tri-level auto rack cars gleam in the setting sun on their way from Piedras
Negras in the Mexican state of Coahuila (background) to Eagle Pass in the American state
of Texas (foreground) on July 23, 1999. The tracks of Ferromex meet Union Pacific tracks
and Burlington Northern Santa Fe trackage rights on this bridge. The bulk of rail traffic at
this steadily growing international rail point is automotive. Piedras Negras is a city of
nearly 300,000 people, and Eagle Pass has about one-tenth as many.
