In these photos by Esteban
Vargas Pérez, two Ferromex SW1504's are depicted in Mexicali,
Baja California. Running cab-forward and looking brand-new in FNM
two-tone blue paint, they have just returned from Calexico, California, USA.
These two locomotives handle the international interchange
to and from Union Pacific in Calexico each morning. The northbound
train departs Mexicali at 6:30, and the southbound train returns around 8:30.
These photos were taken on January 29, 2002.
The SW1504 is a locomotive
unique to Mexico. EMD built only 60 of them between May and August 1973.
They ride on Blomberg B trucks, and were originally numbered NdeM
8800-8859.
