This SD45 began as EMD demonstrator 4354. When it
was sold to Delaware & Hudson in 1967, it was repainted into
D&H's blue and gray lightning-stripe scheme and numbered 801.
In 1969 it was leased to Erie Lackawanna, keeping its number, but being
repainted into EL's gray, maroon, and yellow scheme.
When it returned to D&H in 1976, D&H only painted over the
maroon stripe with blue and placed its herald over the EL nose diamond.
It remained at D&H until late 1978, after which it went to NdeM.
In this photo from the collection of Ricardo Hernández-Lecanda, we see 801
in the D&H modification of the EL livery, as received by NdeM.
The location is at the shops in
San Luis Potosí, San Luis Potosí. (Thanks to Mike Palmieri for details
on the livery changes and to Doug Ellison for a date correction.)
