The territory is directly south of the Rann of Kutch
in the Gujarat area, which does show up on the main
map on the southeastern part of Pakistan. It is
probably only about 100 miles away. I actually have
seen the same map in quite a few places including my
uncle's old calendar/notebook and always have been
surprised that they chose to have an inset instead of
expanding the coverage very slightly to include
Junagadh area.
The dispute was with India. It was the opposite of
Kashmir. Kashmir is where a Hindu monarch chose to
join India in 1947, even though most of its residents
were muslim who would rather have joined Pakistan. At
that time the princely states were given a choice to
join either India or Pakistan or remain independent.
The Kashmir territory is still disputed between
Pakistan and India. Junagadh was a Hindu area ruled
by a muslim who asked to join Pakistan which its
residents didn't want. Though Pakistan claimed it
until 1965, it was a de facto Indian territory. At
that time, after its latest loss in a war with India,
Pakistan gave up its claim to Junagadh.
