your old faithful mobile unit is bearing down now on the ever
mysterious ksmook
followed maybe by the also enigmatic armook
from a little sw of coc here
it may seem relatively easy to find the geographic center of places
like colorado or wyoming
but i know there are still some rough edges along their borders that
will wreak havoc on glib oversimplifications
not to mention that the south halves of such apparent rectangles must
be fatter than the north halves
& must pull the center well south of the median latitude
etc etc
so never a really easy day for centerpointers
but i have been riding old route 50
which used to be the central transcontinental highway
on an old scale that ran from 10 to 90
sort of
50 is no longer quite transcontinental today
but still calls itself the loneliest road in america
& is truly that thru most of nevada & much of utah
& the fantastic stuff car driving ads are made of
anyway i thought you might also like to know
it is no longer lonely at all by the time you reach grand junction
& also that salida has no exit
indeed the highway goes right thru the center of town here
but it appears the original name of salida may have been a reference
to the departure of the arkansas river from the rocky mountains here
however i still need to scope this out a little more
before risking an official guess
as there is still a canon city to go some distance downstream
& anyone please help with the accent mark if you can
