Finland is not situated on the Scandinavian peninsula; neither is the main population of Scandinavian origin.
Iceland is mainly populated by Scandinavians and [therefor] speaking a Scandinavian language.
Scandinavia + Finland = the Nordic countries ( http://www.lysator.liu.se/nordic/ )

Outside Scandinavia all the Nordic Countries (Iceland, Norway,
Sweden, Finland and Denmark) are usually refered to also as
Scandinavian countries, despite this isn't strictly geographically
correct.
Anyway, in this case, Finland is also a Scandinavian republic.
By the other hand, if you call Scandinavia just the geographic
region, then Iceland is not a Scandinavian country.
So, in either option Jan's statement seems to be incorrect. Or am I
missing something?
