Some words about the size of Tim Horton's in Canada
and the US from their website:
The chain's focus on top quality, always fresh
product and friendly, efficient customer service has helped make Tim Horton's
one of North America's largest coffee and fresh baked goods chains. Today, Tim
Horton's has more than 2,000 stores across Canada and a steadily growing base of
more than 140 locations in key markets within the United States.
* The New York Times had an article on this a month
or so ago. Yes, here in Vancouver, I can get the same day NYT at 7:30am.

And now some words about Wendy's-Tim
Horton's:
In 1995, Tim Horton's merged with Wendy's
International, Inc. While Tim Horton's continues to operate as a separate
entity, the merger provided a new focus for the expansion of the Tim Horton's
concept in the United States. Tim Horton's locations can presently be found in
Michigan, New York, Ohio, Kentucky, Maine, and West Virginia. The Canadian
operation is 95% franchise owned and operated, and plans in the U.S. call for
the same key strategy to be implemented as expansion progresses.

And now my thoughts:
Krispy Kreme: I've had 'em in New York,
though I forgot to when I was there in September. I found them OK -- but
not the be all and end all. Although, I don't really like donuts, so that
may be why!
Tim Horton's: Same donut comment. But
Tim's has GREAT coffee. Always smooth and tasty. Nothing like a
"large double-double" (two cream, two sugar). Much better than
anything Starbucks offers up.
Starbucks: Ok, I'm supporting a big evil
company, but their Vanilla Lattes are amazing. Just the thing on a cold,
wet Vancouver winter's morn. Of course, a Venti latte is over C$4
(US$2.57 or E2.55) -- but I don't care. I'm
addicted.
Now.... what was this group about? Ah,
right... borders!!!
Cheers!

Best Vancouver excuse for being late for
work:
"A movie was being shot and they detained me for
continuity."
