The news we got here from official agencies and the press was that all access to and from the US was sealed (ie borders closed) for approximately eight hours after the hijackings while the border agencies came up with some kind of plan. The US-Mexico border was sealed up for much of September 11.

Acctualy, the border was not shut on 9-11. The US customs people
wanted to make that clear and it was all over the news, even down
where I live, Philadelphia. Now long lines? Thats another story.
