my mind is still swimming on this one
so here are a few more strokes

first
since the referenda are scheduled for the last week of november
one optimistic projection could find doug on location right there
for any ribbon cutting or stake driving that might naturally occur
whether by chance or by design
on or about the turning of the new year
just to put it as optimistically & festively as possible
& since this was also by chance his own express target point

second etc & perhaps more realistically
since mexico & belize are not known to have differed
about the position of the short northsouth survey sector of bzmx
separating the mexican state of campeche
from the belizean district of orange walk
a line which still appears until now at least to have terminated at
the same aguas turbias reference marker
whether expressly or implicitly thus i dont know
then
unless mexico also agrees here to accept a similarly minuscule
land cession or concession from belize
the bzgtmx tripoint could well still remain fixed at aguas turbias
while bzgt terminates 200m to the east as planned
thereby producing a short territorial overlap
& projecting an unnegotiated eastwest sector of bzgt
directly west from gtne
upon which bz would actually lie directly north of gt

this would be in the mirror image of how nm lies due north of tx
between conmok & txnw
or of how mt lies due north of sd
between mtsdwy & mtse
both in the usa

in fact now that i think about it a little more from that experience
this slight overlap scenario seems almost more likely
than a change in the tripoint position
even if bzgt2002 is approved
since why would bz & mx then want all that extra diplomatic work
for such little effect
something on the order of 200m x 10km
of spontaneous jungle transfer

well
that is not nothing
2 or 3 km sq
but lets not completely rule the old aguas turbias marker out yet

& finally
if aguas turbias does become tripoint history
& just another point upon gtmx
as i initially just supposed it would
then the once adjacent belizean aguas turbias national park
which was named after the formerly presumed tripoint
will become completely disconnected from its source
& may need a name change just to avoid embarrassment
for celebrating something that would no longer even be belizean
& for reminding folks of such unwarranted & gratuitous sacrifice
of once real belizean soil
not to guatemala but to mexico
