That seems very odd.  I've never crossed there... (I suppose I need to make a list!)... but I have no idea why it wouldn't marked -- especially the vista.

Here's a link to the coordinates to the boundary markers along the 49th parallel.
http://www.internationalboundarycommission.org/coordinates/SECT-M-83.txt

Creston BC is located at 116°31'  West, and that means that some of these should have been visible:

MONUMENT 200              48 59  59.2   116 47  18.8
MONUMENT 201              48 59  59.4   116 45  19.3
MONUMENT 202              48 59  59.5   116 43  38.8
MONUMENT 203              48 59  59.5   116 42  01.6
MONUMENT 204              48 59  59.6   116 39  06.8
MONUMENT 205              48 59  59.6   116 36  26.4
MONUMENT 206              48 59  59.5   116 34  36.1
MONUMENT 207              48 59  59.5   116 29  57.3

MONUMENT 208              49 00  00.5   116 26  21.4
MONUMENT 209              49 00  01.1   116 23  48.6
MONUMENT 210              49 00  01.8   116 20  53.0
MONUMENT 211              49 00  02.1   116 19  36.6
MONUMENT 212              49 00  02.6   116 16  39.0
MONUMENT 213              49 00  03.0   116 14  14.1
MONUMENT 214              49 00  02.4   116 12  48.4
MONUMENT 215              49 00  02.0   116 11  39.0
MONUMENT 216              49 00  02.0   116 10  57.6
And I even found a happy couple near the 49/117 confluence -- with the vista heading west behind them.

So... I don't know!!

Subject: [BoundaryPoint] 49th Dissapointment

After a recent trip to the US I was dissapointed at the boarder
crossing of choice. South of Creston B.C. into Northern Idaho, not
only was the actual border not marked but looking off into the
distance i could see no markers or even the 10m wide cut line that
should have been there??? Doug can you shed some light, have you been
across this one??
