Yesterday I visited ltplru - the position is
54° 21' 47,8"
22° 47' 31,2"
On the point are so far only a tripoint marker, a Polish and a Russian
boundary marker.
All of them were probably put there before 1990 (when Lithuania became
independent).
It also seems clear that the Russian marker now is situated inside Lithuania
(!).
To reach the tp we needed several permissions from the lt border police. The
USSR electric border fence (about 500 m. inside the plru/pllt border) is
still there, and it took some time before we got escort to get behind it by
a border police jeep. Further we had to walk these 500 meters through some
very dense forrest and brush with a lot of surprises in shape of barbed wire
fences. When we finally got to the tp we discovered it was some 100 metres
from a nice Polish village!! A Polish border guard standing on a small new
cut grass field was looking at us when we came out of the "jungle". I wonder
what he was thinking!
The markers had both pl and ru numbers 1987. Some 250 metres east the joint
lt and pl boundary markers (lt on one side and pl on the other side) were
starting. From the tp we could actually see two. I was told they were put up
3-4 months ago only. On plru side we could not see any.
I have a lot of gps data and photos. This and a more detailed report will be
published on my GeoSite after the holiday - in August.
Now I am heading for my old country - haven't been there for almost two
years!
