I'd like to think I have one of the first copies of Brendan's thesis
and have the privilege of publishing the first critical review.

It's a must see! It reminds me of Capt. Samuel Turner's book first
published in 1800, "Account of an Embassy to Tibet and a Narrative of
a Journey Through Part of Bhutan and Tibet". Both about the same size
(hundreds of pages, bound in blue), both detailing and putting into
focus obscure history through organized texts, official documents and
detailed maps. The maps are worth the price of the book. So too, are
the photos - including what is probably the first ever published
picture of the world's only enclave in an enclave in an enclave.

The chronologies of trouble that has existed over these plots, led me
to conclude that enclaves could be a good solution for the problems in
Kashmir between Pakistan and India. If we could, as they did in
Baarle, draw borders around everyone's plots in accordance with their
loyalties, we'd reduce a mega problem to Hatfield & McCoy style
skirmishes. In the area Brendan has covered in his thesis, the same
religous divisions are at play as in Kashmir - over just as large a
border area - and nobody dares dream of using atomic weapons to solve
their problems. The parties are simply too close together!

Brendan's book is an easy read that will keep any border freak
entertained for days! A book to make any coffee table proud. If you
can afford it, don't miss it.
