In relation to the "land border", during the troubles, a lot of minor
cross-border roads were closed, but most have beeen reopened in the past ten
years. The security presense has also been reduced a lot.

While in theory no passport is required to pass between Ireland the UK, in
the past few years, they have started checking papers, mainly to control
illegal immigrants.
