but anyway<br/>
i did surprise even myself by making a spontaneous try for a <br/>
quaternary quadripoint of all things <br/>
cacosash by name in short<br/>
a point previously reported here by its full name but which i will <br/>
mention now only sans prefix since my present location is again a <br/>
closely guarded secret for reasons i will obfuscate further by adding <br/>
only that my previously reported position perhaps 3 weeks ago was <br/>
in my favorite state of md aka the free state<br/>
& i wanted to give the impression of holding steady there<br/>
tho that is actually no longer true geographically <br/>
only sentimentally<br/>
& those are the only clues i will give<br/>

but i did enjoy a fantastic couple of hours tramping & pacing on deer <br/>
& turkey trails to within probably 100 feet or so of my target <br/>
which was situated along a visible thalweg<br/>
& i photographed it probably class c<br/>
but what was most remarkable about this try was that the final <br/>
decision of where to center the photo frame was made not exactly by <br/>
me but rather for me by a protruding rock that fairly presented <br/>
itself in approximately the correct position <br/>
  even seeming to split the thalweg in two <br/>
as if just to pose for the picture<br/>

this was not the first time i have adopted a found object whether <br/>
stationary or moving across the scene to represent a best guess or <br/>
try at either a clearly known or frankly uncertain position<br/>
<br/>
fiat pointing i would call it <br/>
not because the point is on a fiat boundary <br/>
which in this case it was<br/>
but because one might just say let this object represent the point<br/>
fiat punctum<br/>
at least for the time being<br/>
<br/>
indeed it is a very useful & satisfactory technique <br/>
  somewhat like marking ones place with a bookmark <br/>
especially if a retry with better maps or aids is in the offing<br/>
which in this case it is because i believe i can do better<br/>
& could certainly wade out or paddle for a class b visit under the <br/>
right conditions <br/>
including using a usgs topo rather than just the delorme topo i <br/>
actually did use<br/>

& when i do return for the presumably more accurate sequel <br/>
the rock will be there to tell me how close i really was on the first <br/>
try<br/>

but that one final impulsive try does indeed conclude the present <br/>
outing<br/>
or rather the recent outing now <br/>
which you may recall began in horizontal rain last december at cape <br/>
perpetua many points & kilomiles ago<br/>
