Although it would seem that the federal government is now responsible
for its maintenance. The article at

les/0045/index.html> would suggest that it received this responsibility
directly from the Russian authorities rather than from the local Berlin
government.

It is only with the current federal government that any thorough
maintenance has actually been funded by them. Before 1999, the bill was
footed by the government of Berlin. See
