nogales az
& this place was named for wall nuts

we got here by a very circuitous back country route including
why az
lukeville
quitobaquito
sasabe
arivaca
pena blanca
& saw the wall & monuments in many different formats including none at all
but a broken cattle fence wide open in many places

but the best stretch of mxus for its oddity & counterexemplariness was in
organ pipe cactus national monument where the 4th class hardscrabble
washboard american road runs practically side by side with a state of the
art blacktop transmexican highway for about 10 miles
& i got to feeling so underprivileged as a yanko that i found ways to break
thru into the third world & rode the comfy mexican way for about 10km before
realizing i would have to pass a mexican army checkpoint as an illegal alien
gringo without papers or insurance but plenty of drugs
so of course i turned around & was fortunately able to thread my way back
illegally into the usa by the same route i had just used to leave for a
totally wild 20km at large in mexico tho i got nowhere in the end

well i guess you had to be there
but dont miss quitobaquito or sasabe if you get the chance
for rich examples of border crossings back of beyond
& i assure you the wall is not everywhere & is only a false front at best

& bill i believe you are putting your finger here on another very close
stretch of roadway
for tho the limited part of interstate 8 that i know is at least 3 miles
from the border right there by the andrade cable car crossings
there are nevertheless probably much closer stretches of this freeway within
california

of course i can barely skim the shell of all the nuttiness ahere so i wont
try much harder
out of ime
