Someone asked about the status of American Indian reservations?
I happened to read this today:

http://www.50minutehour.net/

Indian reservations within US borders are considered to be
sovereign protectorates of the federal government. They have
their own legal systems and internal services, and are not
affliated with the affairs of US states. However, they cannot
negotiate with the outside world as sovereign entities, and the
federal government can step in at any time and overthrow their
governments. Oh, and by the way, on most reservations, Native
Americans have no rights to private property. They can't own
their own homes or land, and if they start businesses or make
money, the profits are held in common by the tribe and are
divided equally among all members. . . .
