strategic importance<br/>
  besides a strategem of non easement<br/>
for it evidently allowed britain to close off its second south african front <br/>
with portugal & concentrate to the east & north as far as germany would <br/>
allow on their second frontier also<br/>
  then at about lake nyasa or so i think<br/>
a nice consolidation<br/>
tho it did take 3 more decades for the giant pink stripe to break thru & <br/>
fully shape up all the way from cape to cairo<br/>
