Subject: [BoundaryPoint] Wakhan Corridor

Now what I am saying may be an urban (desert?) legend,
but maybe not.
The tail of Afghanistan is the Wakhan corridor.
Russian imperialism in the late 19th century when they
started taking over the -stans took it close to
Afghanistan while British was in Pakistan then.
Afghanistan was a pretty little buffer state then (oh,
how the times change) and was allowed to keep its
independence.  However, in the eastern side,
Afghanistan ended and there was a chance Russia and
Britain would collide.  Thus they added a tail to
Afghanistan (when I was young, I used to picture
Afghanistan as a lying bull, so the tail made sense).
And yes, Kaprivi was because Germans wanted to touch
Zambezi, just like Leticia salient and a few others.
By the way, I was wondering if anybody has ever been
able to find a web site which details all the exposed
depressions in the world that lies below sea level.
The depth and the sizes.
Arif
