Hello.

I’ve more informations about the Adorra/Spain/France east tripoint.

First.- Attached to this e-mail, a map on-line from the cartographic
institute of the catalan government ( www.icc.es ) apr. 1:10.000, so
an official map. Only the spanish border is marked, but it’s a very
clear an fine boundary line. The tripoint would be the south one, but
it seems some meters away, direction west, from the point that Eef had
marked. Just a question: what about the border marker 427, according
the treaty the tripoint? According to this map, it would be in the
Andorra/France border.

Second.- The andorran border is not well-defined. I’ve read an article
of Joan Becat: “Les fronteres d’Andorra i els límits parroquials, en
relació amb la vida i l’ecnomia pastorals”( Centre d’Estudis Catalans.
Universitat de Perpinyà, 1994 ). He doesn’t mention the tripoint, but
he explains that at least there are two disputed zones near the
tripoint. Between Andorra and Spain, a zone above the Montmalús peak,
and between Andorra and France, a border zone not fixed nor recognized,
les Abelletes, near the Valira peak.

Third.- I’ve seen the Atlas of Andorra, edited by the Andorran
government. There’s a 1:50.000 map. It’s curious: at the west tripoint,
the three lines of the borders are marked, but at the east one, only
the andorran border is marked. The tripoint seems to be the south one.

Fourth.- The treaty and the delimitation act seems to add more
confusion:
Art. 1 from the 1866 treaty: “The common limits line to Spain and
France…starting at the Valira’s peak…”
But the delimation act ( 1868 ):
Border stone 427: “ From the peak of Valira, situating at the crest of
the pyrenees between France and Andorra, follows an aboument south ,
and there meets a pass well known by the name of Coll d’e Gait or
Portella Blanca d’Andorra. Here marker n.427 has been placed on the
northern edge of the path, at the point common to Spain, France and
Andorra”

Just another note: it seems that there is not a boundary marker on the
the west tripoint.
From the delimitation act:

“Boundary marker 426: at the Boet port, a cross 8 meters away from the
path.
After this point, the international line runs for a very short run
since reachs the Peak of Baiau or Nau de Baiau [ = Peak of Medacorba ],
common peak to Spain, France and Andorra and final point of this
delimitation act.”

I have found more bibliography, so if I have more news, i will post.

Marcel
