Thinking about boundaries in the middle of the road… I could not help
but think of this picture (from the book ""Freie Stadt" zwischen
Stacheldraht?", from which I already posted some pictures), which I
scanned for you, showing the Nennhauser Damm in Berlin. Interesting not
only because it shows the consequences of the split road, but also
because this is a stretch of boundary that was a result of the
territory swap that took place between the Soviet Union and Britain, so
that both powers could possess a complete airfield (the Staaken-Gatow
swap). The Staaken boundary change was annulled after the two Germanies
merged, but the Gatow one wasn’t. This is the old Staaken boundary,
which served as a boundary during the East/West-Berlin situation.
Nowadays it is well within Berlin Land.
