i mean postponed again
not on the road again shucks
because the ferry island is a private religious community
  uh oh
no pets allowed either
  oh no
& the quintessential point on the breakwater is off limits at all times
  well that settled it
but here is an update on the state of the points involved
the 1970s data just found in the nh law code establish
first
the point of departure for determining the position of the coincident point
  trisubdivisional us2menhus
    plus
the double state cardinal point mes & nhe
    all 3 in one
& these same data appear also in passing to determine the position of the
also coincident pair of dry state cardinal points dry mes & dry nhe
the midpoint of the breakwater between star island nh & cedar island me
is specified as the starting point of the very short penultimate course of
the menh state line running perpendicular from the breakwater in a
southeastwardly direction but only so far as the mean low tide line below
the breakwater
but from the isobaths on the topo it is evident this course must be quite
short rather than say sprawling across some vast tidal flat
so the positions of both ends of this short line are probably very close to
  north lat 42d 58m 36s x west long 70d 36m 40s
nor is it immediately clear why such a short segment has been interposed
here just before the final turn point
but no matter
for in any case the final turn point of the menh boundary
at the low end of this little segment
sets the bearing of the final course of the state line
given in the code as 102 degrees east
which i take to mean e12s
now about 3087 feet southeast of the breakwater along this final course
the line would appear to reach the shoal or low tide elevation known as
cedar island ledge & to intersect it near its northernmost point
thus evidently establishing there at mean low tide on the far side of this
projection the double dry cardinal point mes & nhe
before continuing without deflection 3 nautical miles or an additional
18240 feet to the treble coincident point menhus plus absolute cards men &
nhe
the final 102e bearing looks like it may have been set deliberately to hit
the north end of the shoal
perhaps the highest or only dry land point on that shoal
& thus to leave almost the entire shoal within new hampshire
& only its north tip in maine
so whoever can compute coords for the outer end of the 3087 foot course
& then also for the far end of the combined 21327 foot course
both running concurrently 102e from the lat & long given above
will be the first to know the most probable single position of dry mes&nhe
& also the first to know the most probable single position of menhus &
absolute mes&nhe
& i hope you will not keep me in suspense either if you can get them
because i dont think i can get to these with my pencil either
