coos bay or

good to get all those road rules straight at last
as we dodge logging trucks
smiling of course

nothing much new here either but i did learn
the caor  aka major  survey line
begun at canvor in 1868
evidently terminates at a broken stub of a monument
if indeed that is what i found
identified as milepost 212 or boundary mon 41 by usgs
& situated 12 chains or 792 feet from the pacific  per bus&ss p151

evidently on the same alignment but in the dunes much closer to the sea is an orange plastic blm post

from there on a clear day it would be a simple matter to sight the approximate position of the caorus point
3 nm westward from the offshore rocks hereabouts

but the lowering fog at the time of our visit rendered our distant sighting & photo dim & dubious
to say the most
a class ddd visit
but not bad for the first known try

anyway i hope jack did better with njnyus

the only other known try at an american maritime tripoint so far was at demdus last year

but caorus & the oregon coast & continental boundary generally were such good clean fun that we have decided to turn around & head back north now toward oruswa to complete the full survey
of all the  er  2  pacific marine tripoints of the usa

yes
only 2 of the full set of 20 are pacifics
while all the 18 others
including the newly discovered caribbeans prusvin & prusvis
are on the atlantic side
strange

another nice thing about coasting oregon & the continental boundary here are the distinctive matched sets of 4 obeliskoids that adorn each of the rivermouth bridges
reminiscent of the obeliskoids of the eurasian boundary

like those the set of obelisks here on each bridge has a different theme

my favorite are the multiple ziggurat obelisks on the rogue river bridge
which were actually quite staggering after all we have been thru on this subject
