if you are reading this
you probably already realize it is the umpteenth in an
ongoing & more or less alphabetical series
comprising the boundarypoint borderbase tour of the
tricountry points of the world
which began as soon as we realized we could try them
all in virtual reality for the first time
with the new google earth wonder toy

but late arrivals can join & catch the entire
preliminary tour in one swell foop at
http://nicolette.dk/borderbase/google/Border%20tripoints.kmz
where they will find the original pushpin placemarks
referred to & pictured in the attachments to this
message & the others

for anyone not already familiar with the common 6
letter bp tripoint names
it can be a fun challenge to puzzle them out
since they have been created by arranging in
alphabetical order the standard universal 2 letter
code names of the 3 countries that constitute any
given tripoint

in the case of the first of the above titled tripoints

namely bicdrw
even if you didnt know our grand alphabetical tour
would be reaching burundi in english or bi in code
today
you might have recognized or guessed this bi element
or maybe you would first have spotted the cd as in
congo democratic & or the rw as in rwanda that follow
& combine with it

but no matter
for once you have recognized or correctly guessed any
of the 3 component digraphs
the rest of the tripoint name is much easier to figure
out
if not already obvious
when you consult your mental map or peek at a real one
if necessary

& a complete list of the standard 2 letter codes can
be found here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1_alpha-2
in case you need it too
which however i also doubt you will

but in any case the search for the bicdrw tripoint
itself leads to the confluence of the luhwa river with
the rusizi as detailed here
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BoundaryPoint/message/19282
& because the thalweg junction is given as the correct
location by the best available authorities & is
evidently discernible on the satpic too
i have attached a tripoint stretching diagram based
upon this position

this
like all the other tripoint stretching diagrams
attached to this series of messages
uses a white line with little red squares at its ends
to suggest pulling the erroneous yellow google earth
border depictions & triply erroneous trijunction point
over to the presumably correct or more nearly correct
location

& as for the bicdtz tripoint
it is known to lie on the parallel of the mouth of
ndyakalika ravine
which is said to debouch into lake tanganyika in slat
4d27m
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BoundaryPoint/message/19284

but since this ravine cant be found anywhere by its
name
the likeliest ravine mouth was found at google earth
in slat 4d26m56s as it happens
&
it is this exact parallel of latitude
at the measured midpoint of the lake upon it
that was selected for the best guessed tripoint
stretching diagram in the second attachment

&
turning finally to the birwtz tripoint
at the thalweg junction of the mwibu river with the
kagera
i think the borderbase pushpin has already nailed it
as well as can be

so there would be no point in trying to add another
tripoint stretching diagram to an already overstuffed
message

nevertheless
it is opportune to append the following checklist
of all tripoints not previously counted of countries
having english names beginning with the letter b
to the list of the 40 tripoints previously counted in
message 19935 of countries having english names
beginning with the letter a

bangladesh 1
belarus 5
belgium 3
belize 1
benin 3
bhutan 2
bolivia 3
bosnia 3 but yikes i just realized we forgot the new
bamers tripoint
botswana 4
brazil 5
bulgaria 4
burkina faso 4
burundi 3
which thus produces a total of 41 bees
on top of the earlier 40 ays or ehs
or however you spell the plural of the first letter of
the alphabet

so as soon as i run back to bosnia to pick up the new
bamers tripoint
if you dont mind waiting a bit longer for cambodia &
the rest of the long awaited cees to begin
we will have completed 81 or nearly half the world
class

yikes

lucky i double checked tho

& please stand by while i back up again

this is not part of the original itinerary
