there's an 8mile gap between the Egyptian border at Taba and the
Hejaz border south of Aqaba, but an interesting history of the town
is recounted, including Aqaba being the site for a brazen crusader
attempt to ravage Araby, after using camel caravans to carry
prefabricated boats from Amman to the coast, and assemble them there.
It failed, but only after intervention by an Egyptian fleet.
