new tripoint crossing is still not expected to come
fully on line until later this year
fresh news report indicates toward end of page 1
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/03/04/international/middleeast/04gaza.html?hp&ex=1141448400&en=529facce96fe08db&ei=5094&partner=homepage

& on page 2 is a hint that the gaza side of the
philadelphi crossing at rafah is today guarded by
israel only by means of video cameras
which are monitored indirectly & in fact ineffectively
from this new facility nearby
since the gaza side is actually controlled fully &
directly by comparatively relaxed palestinian
personnel & their european union helpers
with any egyptian guards in the neighborhood being
conspicuously unmentioned
& thus presumably watching the border on their own
relaxed behalf from the egyptian side only
apparently contrary to earlier expectations that they
might be stationed
however improbably
within gaza territory

another recent account seems to place the egyptians
only in egypt too
with the palestinians in full control of the gaza side
of the border
http://www.palsolidarity.org/main/2006/02/14/gaza-who-really-controls-the-rafah-crossing/

so whenever this curious new eggzil crossing does open
in earnest
& whatever its physical relationship to the precise de
facto tripoint
which is still unknown & being sought
it would nevertheless already appear to have all the
earmarks of being fully trilateral
